Stu and his Crew got the job of putting on our Newburgh Yacht Club February Dock Party done despite an all day long electrical power outage. The cause, was a massive tree which fell, knocking down the power lines in neighborhood of the Yacht Club. The incident happened about 4:30 a.m. on Saturday February 27, the day of our party.
Chairman, Stu Keeler said he knew something was wrong when he arrived at the club to start working on the party and the electric gates didn’t work.
Stu said they assessed the situation and heard from Central Hudson Utilities that the electric power likely would be back on about 6:00 p.m., just as the sun would be going down and the party really getting underway. So the decision was made to use our large gas fired oven/range do the all the cooking and keep the party on schedule. However it wasn’t until about 9:00 p.m. that electric power was actually restored at the clubhouse and the lights came on at the party.
Everything went fine though. Members found or brought from home candles. Those attending took the lack of electric power in stride, adopting the feeling that we had ended up having a candle lit romantic Italian Dinner for our Dock Party.
Club members also found an electric generator to use once it got really dark. They hung the lights we use usually outside in our event tent, inside the clubhouse for extra light and ambience.
The food which included; pasta with meatballs; chicken parmesan; shrimp scampi and sauteed spinach was all delicious. Stu thanked, Sharon Betts, for help with the cooking. Vice Commodore, Ed O’Neill, congratulated all the members of the committee on a job well done.
Great praise was given to Stu and his crew for the job they did with limited resources of no electric power.
Members said they a great time. Chairman Stu Keeler said this party was one for the books.
