By-Laws Change Approved on Term Limits

April 24, 2023 by Arthur Livesey

Immediate Past Commodore Gregory Dombroski presided over the General Membership Meeting of the Newburgh Yacht Club held on April 21, 2021. Commodore John Disciglio and Vice Commodore Christopher Carfora were on vacation.

The main item of business was a vote on a by-laws change. The change to eliminate term limits for the Commodore, Vice Commodore and Fleet Captain was approved by three-quarters of the voting members. The earlier by-laws limited members to having three consecutive terms in these positions.

Greg announced with sadness that John Vargo, the publisher of the magazine Boating on the Hudson, had passed away. He will be missed for his coverage of our hobby and sport.

Two new members of our club were also introduced:

Larry and Angie Holzapfel. They are from Montgomery and are longtime boaters who will be on D-Dock with their 29-foot Sea Ray. They have four children as well as grandchildren. Larry is an Environmental Consultant and Angie is a retired nurse. They now work together at their business, Quality Environmental Solutions & Technologies.

New member “Murph” and Fleet Captain Mike Cahill

Mike Murphy “Murph” and his wife Connie will be on C-Dock with their Cruiser Yacht 3075 Rogue. They have two dogs, Cooper, and Mimi, who enjoy boating. Murph, a boater for most of his life, is an Arborist with Wickes Arborist and Davey Tree Expert Company.

Welcome to our new members!

Peggy O’Neill announced that our Ship’s Store will be open for Spring and Summer items. Place your orders by May 9th with delivery here at the club for Memorial Day. Here’s a link to our Ship’s Store Website.

Karl Najork, our new Purser gave his report and reminded members to get their checks in for the Commodore’s Ball. He said once you’ve made your reservations to attend the event online don’t forget to mail in your checks for payment. All reservations and payments should be in by April 30, 2023.

Reminders were given for the Blessing of the Fleet set for Sunday June 11th and our mandatory Clean Up Work Day for Saturday June 10th.
