Lobster Fest 2025-Stupendous!

Lobster Fest 2025 Chairman, Wendy Doviken

After a lull of seven years, one of our most well-known events has made a triumphant return to the delight of the members of the Newburgh Yacht Club.

Wendy Doviken, one of our members, spearheaded the revival of the Lobster Fest. She aimed to avoid long lines and ensure our members didn’t spend the entire day preparing and serving food.

Wendy chose the club’s large tent by the river as the event site. Instead of relying on club members for all the work, she hired a chef to handle the cooking and servers to bring the food to the tables. Music played throughout the event, thanks to the DJs Wendy brought in.

The 8-to-10-ounce grilled lobster tails were the stars of the menu, which also featured clams, shrimp, and many other seafood and delicious starter items and side dishes. The seafood was fresh and unbelievably delicious.

Wendy, the event chairman, thanked all the members who supported the event by buying tickets and attending. She also gave special thanks to the members and their spouses who lent a helping hand during the event.

Around 75 people attended Lobster Fest, and most agreed that the admission was worth it for the included food and drinks. Many hoped the event would return next year.

Below, is a sidebar story to our Lobster Fest:

Just as our Lobster Fest was getting underway, a sleek new luxury coastal catamaran-style cruise ship passed by on the Hudson River.

The American Eagle, a two-year-old vessel measuring 243 feet in length with a 56-foot beam, was on a six-day cruise from Albany to New York City. After spending the night in Kingston, its next stop was West Point.
Designed for comfort and elegance, the ship accommodates 109 passengers across 56 cabins and five decks. Built at a cost of $20 million, it represents a growing trend in upscale river cruising.

It’s heartening to see the Hudson River gaining recognition as a luxury cruising destination—not just for us yacht club boaters, but also for discerning travelers who appreciate its scenic beauty, rich history, and cultural offerings.
