Nice Weather Boosts Work Program

April 22, 2018 by Arthur Livesey

Nice weather brought out club members to tackle some of the major work projects at the Newburgh Yacht Club.

Our biggest project is the rebuilding of D Dock, that’s nearing completion.   When you see and actually walk on the dock  you’ll understand all the work, planning and components that have gone into it.   You’re going to be very proud of what we have and grateful for all of the work our members have put into it.

Here are some of the features of the project.

  • New reinforcing wall that retains the stone from our breakwater/roadway alongside the dock
  • Welded metal frames at about every 20 feet supporting the dock giving strength and durability.
  • The higher elevation of the dock, raised  to help keep it dryer  in high water.  Benefits: safer to use, better longevity of the wood.
  • The use of heavy duty construction materials to give it a sturdiness and robustness as it works for us out on the river.  Notice the:
    • 4′ x 12″ Stringers joined by metal plates
    • 2″x 8″ Decking
    • Fitted and screwed together for a good appearance, sturdiness and less maintenance in the future
  • All new electrical and plumbing service concealed under the decking for the safety and convenience our our members.

Welded Deck Frames installed every 20 feet.

Work Program Schedule

Frank Galli says the general work program will be on Saturday’s this year.  This will allow you to have Sunday to work on your boat to get it ready for launching.  Frank notes that there may be some special projects or members working on Sunday’s or other days of the week to get their hours in.

Boat Launching

Dan Galage says the second and third weekends in May will be for boat launching.   That’s the weekends of May 12th and 19th.
