Goodbye Utility Poles

May 12, 2019 by Arthur Livesey

Newburgh Yacht Club members we’ll be having a less obstructed view of the river, Mt. Beacon and the Hudson Highlands. The utility poles and the electric lines they hold spanning the entire 1/8 mile of “D” dock will soon be gone.

For the last month as part of the club’s work program members who are electricians or who are associated with that trade have been pulling wires, running conduit, and fabricating connection boxes for this major project.

Commodore Richard Bremer giving a big thank you to all the members working on the project says this will improve the electrical service along “D” dock.

He added, this will help meet the higher demand for electric by the larger boats. He also said, having the electric lines in conduit will lessen the potential of storm damage compared to having overhead wiring. Plus he noted we’ll all have a better scenic view of the river.

He says this also compliments the past two years of work completely renovating “D” dock with new decking, foundations and pilings.
