For the first time in many years stormy weather interfered with our Blessing of the Fleet. The rain and windy conditions forced us to cancel our Boat Parade, one of the most looked forward to parts of our Blessing program.
Commodore John Disciglio thanked the members who signed up to be in the parade and got their boats ready for it. He said he their efforts were noted. He was glad for the good turnout of members and guests for this traditional event that helps us remember our heritage as a club going back to 1895.
We switched most of the ceremony to inside our clubhouse and began with the flag ceremony and introductions of our officers and directors.
Deacon Peter Haight started the Blessing Service inside and with a break in the weather moved it outside to have the Remembrance Service next to the the water. The names of club members and club family members who passed away during the last year were read. A bell was tolled for each. Family members were given a flower to place in the river as a remembrance at the conclusion of the service.
The program wrapped up with a delicious brunch being served. The menu included eggs, French Toast, sausages, bacon, eggs, fruit, pastries, cheeses, juices, coffee and for the adults Mimosas.
Thank you to all those who helped with putting on this event. Your dedication made this event a success.
