“What A Day” at the Newburgh Yacht Club
Construction began on our new swimming pool. Boat hauling was in full swing. Shrink wrapping was underway. Members were cleaning their boats and getting in their final work hours. Back then it was the Newburgh Canoe and Boating Association. They were located at the foot of Fourth Street in an almost inaccessible recess of a dock storehouse. They became known as the "Dock Rats" because of their location. They took the name to heart and for years their club insignia was a white flag with a black rat.
