Highlights of April General Membership Meeting 4/16/2021

April 22, 2021 by Arthur Livesey

Four New Members Of Our Club

Commodore John Disciglio greeted our 4 new members at the General Membership Meeting.   Membership Chairman Bob Chesser introduced the members to the club and presented each with a club burgee.

Pictured left to right is Commodore Disciglio, and New Members Dick Thorpe, Jessica Wuerz, John Nelson, and Tony Carbonara.

The new members were given a warm welcome along with best wishes to enjoy the club and boating in the years ahead.

Thank You from Our Work Committee Chairman

At the General Membership Meeting, Work Committee Chairman Joe Pilliterri gave praise to all our members who have been putting so much time and effort into completing projects at the club.

He said many members have already completed their 20 hours of required work and just kept on finishing what was needed to get done.   He said this was without regard to hours.   The renovation of our clubhouse meeting room was a prime example of members going above and beyond.    It produced a beautiful result he said, adding that all members should keep this in mind as it will make our club a better place.

Joe says he has job hours available for all members.

Available Jobs are posted in the clubhouse.  You can contact Joe at 845-541-5347 with questions or for more information.

Proposed Changes to Bylaws

Past Commodore Greg Dombroski has been chairing a committee to update our club bylaws.   He gave the first of 3 readings of the changes at this meeting.   At the fourth reading the club will vote on the changes.   A two-thirds majority is needed for approval.

Changes include allowing new members to pay for their work hours instead of working them.    Currently new members must perform their work hours for their first two years of membership.    Another change is in the rules for Life Membership.   Life Members would now have to be 65-years of age and have 20 years of Boating Membership.   Currently candidates can have a mix of Associate and Boating Membership Status to reach the 20-year requirement.   All candidates will still have to show they have done something extraordinary for the club.

Stay tuned for more details

The Blessing of the Fleet which had to be cancelled last year because of Covid 19 is on our social schedule again.  It has been set for Sunday June 6, 2021.   The all-hands-on deck Clean Up Day to get ready for it will be Saturday June 5th.

Start Looking Good in Yacht Club Attire.

We now have a reason to get a new Yacht Club Polo, Tee, or other item.

Our club’s Blessing of the Fleet is on the Schedule for June 6th.

This is the traditional opening of our boating season.

It is the perfect time for members to wear something with our yacht club logo and name.

This year it is going to be easier than ever to get your yacht club apparel

Speaking at the meeting, Peggy O’Neill, who runs our Newburgh Yacht Club Ship’s Store said we have new cotton styles & colors in addition to our Sport-Tek polo, tee, long-sleeve pullover and cotton hooded sweatshirts, fleece & waterproof jackets, and caps.

You will be able to place your orders through May 12, 2021.

Orders will be delivered to you at the Newburgh Yacht Club on or about Memorial Day weekend.

There could be some delivery delays because of manufacturer issues due to covid – but Peggy will keep you informed.

If you have any questions or comments, you can reach Peggy at 845-661-3118 or pdon199@aol.com.

Peggy says “Take a look at some of the newest items we have for you.”

Open for Gas

Director Bill Chesser announced that the Gas Dock is open, and water has been turned on in the marina.  He said he will be soon stocking the freezer at the Gas Dock with ice cubes for purchase.

New Gathering Spot

Work is going to be completed soon on Commodore’s Point.   The recent pile driving project did include shoring up this area.  Plans call for placing of tables, chairs and even a tent covering so members can enjoy views of the river there this summer.

Newest Life Member

Congratulations to Andy Harcher who was presented with the honor by Membership Chairman Bob Chesser at the meeting.  The club is headed in the right direction said Andy in speaking about the renovation of the clubhouse and the work ethic and enthusiasm the members are showing for club.

Boat Launching Days

Fleet Captain Dan Galage reminds all members to get your boats ready so you don’t hold up others wanting to go in.   Our Boat Launching Days are going to be Saturday May 8th and Saturday May 15th.     Dan reminds all boats to sound their horns on leaving or entering the marina.  New York State regulations now in effect require Jet Skiers to be at least 14 years of age and have a NYS Boating Safety Certificate.

Shuffle Off to Pennsylvania

Our newly renovated club meeting room is now missing an exceptionally large longtime fixture.   The club recently decided to sell its Shuffleboard Table.   Club Secretary Stu Keeler says a buyer from Pennsylvania saw our item for sale ad on Facebook and agreed to pay $1,500.   He came with a truck, paid, and took the table home. Speaking of Facebook.  The club is looking for someone to manage its Facebook Page.   If you are interested.  Let Stu know.
